Chongqing motorcycle brands, explained
Key facts
- · Chongqing is China’s largest motorcycle production base.
- · In Q1 2025 alone the city exported ~488,000 units of 100–125cc, ~100,000 of 250–400cc and ~16,000 of 400cc+ (customs data).
- · The 2026 World Superbike title was won by Chongqing brand ZXMOTO on the 820RR-RS.
- · Behind the brands sit 40+ complete-vehicle factories and 400+ component suppliers, most within an hour of each other.
The brands you’ll recognize
ZXMOTO (Zhang Xue Moto) — the newest and loudest: founded 2024 in Liangjiang New Area by Zhang Xue, who previously built KOVE. Won the 2026 WSBK title; road range spans the 820RR triple (99 kW, ¥43,800), the 500RR — the cheapest inline-four supersport ever sold (from ¥27,980) — and the 500F retro. Global distribution is just starting; our export brief covers how buyers get one today.
KOVE — the brand that put Chongqing rally bikes on the world map, racing Dakar and selling the 800X line in the US at $11,299–12,999 MSRP. Proof that a Chongqing-built 800 can retail at 2× its FOB in Western markets.
VOGE — Loncin’s premium arm; the DS900X adventure tourer sells across Europe around €10,990. Loncin also builds engines under contract for BMW’s single-cylinder models — a fact worth knowing when someone tells you Chongqing can’t do quality.
Zongshen / Cyclone — one of the original “big four”, with the Cyclone brand covering 250–800cc; its NC450 engine platform powers much of the 450 enduro and rally class we export.
SWM / Shineray — Shineray bought the Italian SWM brand and builds its range in Chongqing; also a major force in commuters and cargo trikes.
The layer importers actually buy from
Under the famous names sits the layer that matters for dealers: dozens of complete-vehicle factories (KEWS/Cowells, Jiesu and others) building 250–500cc machines on the same engine platforms — often on the same component supply chain — at MOQs and prices the big brands won’t touch. This is where 450 enduros quote at US$3,300–4,200 and 300-class street bikes at US$1,000–1,600, and where a mixed container of 3–10 units per model becomes possible.
The catch: quality variance is real at this layer. The difference between a good and bad container is not the factory’s brochure — it is whether someone started, ran and filmed every unit before it was crated. That is the PDI standard we run on every order.
What this means for your orders
- Halo + volume works: a ZXMOTO or 450 rally unit in the window, tier-2 300s and commuters doing the volume.
- Engine platforms beat brand names for parts: an NC450-platform bike shares consumables across several brands — simpler after-sales.
- Proximity is leverage: everything above sits within an hour of our office; collection, inspection and consolidation happen the same week.
Sourcing from this ecosystem is literally our job — send an RFQ or start with the container estimator.
